The severity of a condition or Syndrome will ascertain as to the level of ski instruction which is required.  In many cases specialist ski equipment is not required.  It is a special relationship between ski instructor and client.  Understanding an individual's specific needs is vital to having the ultimate experience on snow.

Ski 2 Freedom works in close partnership with many ski schools to ensure that we can identify which ones and which ski instructors will work best with a child or adult who has a learning difficulty.

The right equipment is also very important - many children or adults with a learning difficulty have a problem with balance and/or an associated orthopedic problem often with their feet.  This means that it is essential to have good fitting ski boots and someone who understands about carrying out any adaptations that might be required.

In this section of our website we are delighted to share information and feedback from families who ski and understand the problems associated with learning difficulties.

Full comprehensive details on the ski resort and ski schools can be found in our new new Ski 2 Freedom Guide to Skiing and Mountain Activities  -  which we feel offer an excellent source of ski instruction and activities specifically relating to the conditions and Syndromes which can cause some one to have a mild or severe learning difficulty.

Autistic skiing Val Thorens Prosneige Ski School

"Just a quick note to let you know that we have just returned from a very successful ski holiday in Val Thorens.  William (autistic, 5 yrs) enjoyed a private 2hr lesson each day with Lara, an instuctor with Prosneige.  I would thouroughly recommend her.  She was sensitive to Williams needs, and flexible in her approach.  On days when his concentration was poor she would split the skiing with time indoors.  By the end of the week he was coming down greens on his own! Rarely looking ahead!

Our daughter was with the same ski school and also thoroughly enjoyed it.  The week did make us realise, however, that william will need handiski for the next few years.  He certainly wouldn't cope with 'normal' ski school.

So, we are now thinking of the next holiday.  We are keen to keep the momentum going and get William skiing as frequently as we can.  Any reccommendations for a Christmas ski holiday.  We would prefer a high resort to minimise the risk of poor snow, but apart from that, would want to go where the skiing would be best for William."
