The Team

Catherine Cosby

Director and Founder

The founder and director Catherine Cosby, whose daughter now aged 24 with Rett Syndrome and is profoundly physically and mentally disabled, has a passionate understanding about using snow-sports and the mountains as a catalyst for building self-confidence, leisure and rehabilitation.

Involvement in many charitable projects over the years both in the UK and overseas and as a current member of the UK Forces Additional Needs and Disability Forum has helped to form the idea for this independent multi-national service provider.

Ski 2 Freedom Foundation is being guided and supported by a group of people who feel that their experience and skill will enhance the charitable work of the Foundation.

George Walker

George Walker was the Head of the Sports Department of the Council of Europe – a 46-member states European intergovernmental organisation based in Strasbourg, France – for many years, retiring in 2006. He played a key role in setting up the World anti-Doping Agency, and was a Foundation Board member from its beginning (2000) till 2006. The CoE was always very eager to promote the positive values of sport and to bring it to as many people as possible. Thus he was very involved in developing sport for people with disabilities and in 1986 he produced the “European Charter of Sport for All Disabled People”. More recently, he was Chair of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Independent Observer team at the Athens Paralympic Games in 2004. His knowledge of sports development and sport policies, good governance and social cohesion through sport in Europe is a plus for the Foundation.

Lt Gen Robin Brims CB, CBE, DSO

Robin Brims spent over 35 years in the British Army where he had considerable operational experience of making things happen on the ground. He served in many roles in Northern Ireland; commanded a brigade and mulinational division in Bosnia; commanded British ground troops in the invasion of Iraq in 2003; was the deputy commander of coalition forces Iraq in 2005. He is a great believer in youth and is active in sports and games. He has witnessed terrible injury to young people and wants to give as many people as possible the opportunity to enjoy the freedom and thrills that he has been privileged to experience.
