Switzerland - disabled friendly ski resorts


Switzerland has a rich and long reputation for being the home of winter sports and mountain activities! People having been travelling to the snowy mountains for health related problems and to rejuvenate for as long as anyone can remember - so it is not surprising that the Swiss are continuing to help many people overcome personal challenges and help give them a holiday to remember.

Skiing with a physical disabiliy, learning difficulties, blind or visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing, transplant or amputation is possible almost anywhere in the Swiss Alps. For example:


  • Grimentz is a small but great ski resort for someone using a sit-ski.
  • Gstaad offers fantastic ski instruction for blind and visually impaired visitors
  • Verbier has two ski schools offering expert instruction for all disabilities. 
  • Château-d'Oex ski school has a tandemski which gives a disabled person the opportunity of exploring the beautiful mountains


There are resorts which offer not only snow-sport activities but opportunities for people to simply sit back, relax breathing in the rich mountain air and joining in the laughter of their family and friends. Each of the ski schools or instructors listed below offer some type of snow-sport activity for disability or special needs. In some cases they may not have any specialist equipment but can offer excellent tuition or guiding for other needs. In all cases we strongly advise you to make direct contact with the ski school to discuss your particular needs and requirements - they are just waiting to help you!!
