Many ski resorts in America offer excellent ski instruction for all disabilities, including physical, mental, blind or visually impaired, deaf and audio impaired, learning difficulties, amputation, and a wide range of special needs such as Down’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, cerabal palsy etc.

Ski 2 Freedom has not personally assessed any ski resorts, ski schools or organisations in Utah, Colorado or other regions of America. However, we have set up links with several adaptive and disabled ski groups and are delighted to give you websites and information so that you can contact them and see for yourself if one of these ski resorts suits your own or a member of your family’s specific needs and requirements.

In particular, we understand that many American disabled ski organisations offer the choice of individual instruction or if you are interested in taking a group these disabled children or adults can also be accommodated. The idea of teaching the techniques of ski guiding or sit-ski piloting is another excellent initiative and one in which a parent or friend of a disabled person can become actively involved increasing everyone’s chances of having an experience of a lifetime and ensuring that ski holidays become a regular occurrence!

Adaptive & Disabled Ski Schools and Ski Programs America

 

National Ability Center

The National Ability Center’s alpine skiing and snowboarding program works in cooperation with Park City Mountain Resort to provide quality lessons at a world class resort. All instructors are specially trained in the adaptive techniques of 3-Track, 4-Track, Mono-Ski, Bi-Ski, guiding skiers who are blind, and techniques for teaching individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities.
 

National Sports Centre for the Disabled

Each year, thousands of children and adults with disabilities come to the NSCD to learn freedom, confidence and a sense of accomplishment. They take to the ski slopes, mountain trails and playing fields to experience the thrill and adventure of outdoor recreation and sports. With specially trained staff and its own adaptive equipment lab, the NSCD accommodates individuals with almost any mental or physical challenge.

Over the past 35 years, the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) has enjoyed extraordinary growth and achievement. Our progress has been marked by steady determination and a passion for providing high-quality, affordable recreational and competitive programming to individuals with disabilities.
